It whistles

Yesterday morning and this morning when I started my car it whistled for about 30 seconds to 1 min. Ive had the car for less than a month, so Im not used to all the sounds and rattles yet. I searched on vortex and found this thread about a dentist drill sound. I can relate a little but this is without pushing the gas or shifting. Just at an idle when it first starts.

I just want to catch the problem early (if it is one at all). Im pretty sure its because of global warming, or my hates me for not garaging it in this weather. Is this normal in the cold for a turbo?

It's probably your secondary air pump. It's a stupid emissions thing which is known to fall apart. Some people remove it altogether to clean up the engine bay...if you don't want to go that route, there's plenty of people who sell them mad cheap in the Golf/Jetta Mk4 classifieds on vortex.

The turbo wont make that noise unless it was moving air, its just the SAI system like said above. Could just be a cold pump or you have a leak in the system which is common since the plastic can become brittle and crack/break. If that is the case, just get a larger diam hose and slide it over top of the broken parts, thats what i did and clamped it down

Mine is removed it's pretty easy to do you just leave the solenoid plugged in and wire in some resistors cleaner looking engine bay and less parts to break :)

I saw the DIY, The bay does look alot cleaner. I have to put that on hold until this weather clears up. How long did it take you to remove?

I did not do the removal Shawn@1552v2 has a thing for clean engine bays and asked me to let him remove it while my turbo was being installed :)
