ever since the engine swap i did in june, i have not been able to find a dipstick that fits. ive tried every AEB dipstick i could find, then every 1.8T(AWE ect) dipstick i could find, nothing will go in more then halfway. the car was built for a VW wabbit, but the oil pan and pump are from my old motor. right now i just have my old dipstick and its cut in half so it can fit.

so anyone got ideas on what might fit, or if theres any type of universal or flexable dipstick i can buy. i really dont wanna have to take the bottom end of my engine apart to find whats holding it up.

any ideas would help. thanks.

Have you tried changing the orange part? Thats the only thing i can think of thats causing the issue

the handle?

ive tried a bunch of different ones, the stick usually only goes in halfway though so its not getting stuck on that. i dont think its getting stuck on the oil pan or pump either because it barely goes in halfway.

I think he meant to ask if changed the dipstick tube (the "orange part"). There are several different versions. If the engine was built for a tranverse setup, the tube needs to be swapped as well as the dipstick.

The dip stick tube comes out of the block, make sure that the yellow tube is still pressed into the block. Im thinking the dip stick is misaligned and the dip stick is just hitting the block.

that could be it too. its too effin cold out to look at it now. but ill try both of those.

and theres no such thing as a universal dipstick right? like something that isnt pre-bent and is flexable.

Well there is such a thing, but you have to cut to length, and there is no way for you to know where to cut it at. Plus they suck.
