So I was going threw some of my "european car" magazines and I came across this GIAC flasher. Has anyone used this? Is it a plug and play chip?
It says its $350 ?

Subaru has open source ECU firmwares, and guy swap configs and stuff. That would be pretty cool if we could do it :(

our ecus are great and a pain at the same time. They are great because they adjust fuel and timing w/o needing a retune like everyone else. But we cant unlock the maps and have a custom tune done like evos which is great for the more than mild setups. But a chip, even BT is still a great deal cost wise and no need for a dyno tune. Unitronic chips have adaptive timing so you dont need to pay for a race file. WIth the new 1200cc file coming out, you can run e85 one day and then pump the next and all you do is run psi accordingly.

But this is more for the 1.8t forum which i people would use more ;)

Im sure with the right equiptment, time and patience you can do anything you want with the ECU. I think alot of it depends on the type of codeing IE bilinear ect. Also what protective measures the tuner took to safe guard the investment and development. I would say really if it is a big concearn maybe just go with a stand alone and have a blast.
