Post up your "to do list" for your TT in the near future (next few weeks). This could be mods you're about to do, general maintenance, whatever. Mine:

-CLEAN the damn thing for the first time in 3 months of disuse and probably a month of use prior to that.
-Install the new evap solenoid I have sitting in my trunk
-Transplant my Forge 007 onto the new motor
-Figure out why my cruise control isn't working
-Order/install coilovers/new suspension bushings/bearings
-Order new lugs for new wheels so I can run spacers
-Order 6-speed shift knob
-Figure out why A/C isn't working (pressure switch, probably)

That's all for now methinks.

-Clean
-Replace "Blinker relay" (don't know correct name)
-Replace front right strut
-Change Oil in the next 500 miles

Im dissapointed murderface I figured a KO4 upgrade would be on your list :)

Heres my list:
2.0 stroker ( to fix my messed up crank )
Send my headlights to murderface for modding ( while car is ripped apart for stroker)
once those are complete I get to go back to troubleshooting my tune and hopefully get in a dyno run and a track day ;)

You might aswell send him your valve cover, calipers and anything else you ever wanted powder coated. That Dalhback would look good matching the valvecover

You might aswell send him your valve cover, calipers and anything else you ever wanted powder coated.

I can powdercoat too if anyone is interested.

My list:
Needs rad support, headlights, AC condensor, hood, front bumper.
Then the engine/trans/rear subframe/diff will come out.
Car will be caged and repainted in OEM black.
Porsche Big Reds on the front, new rotors all around.
Wideband ECU and o2 harness will be swapped in.
THEN the 2.0 and 35R will go in with custom FMIC piping, the SEM manifold and 80mm throttle, and a PTE 600 core.
(4) 225/45/17 drag radials until I decide on bigger wheels.

Should take about six months or so. Summer will be fun. :) And then it'll be fast and need coilovers, rear arms, and a Haldex controller. :( Never ending.

Yeah my list seems to be never ending as well once the engine/tune is worked out I will once again work on some engine bay clean up already had some plans on a nice black powder coated dahlback :)

Hey :D not in the immediate future unfortunately :( got a lot of stuff that needs to be done before I implement that (intercooler, exhaust, etc). How's your car coming? I'm still working on the lights I owe you :p

That Dalhback would look good matching the valvecover

I just did an ABD the other week. I didn't mask the injector seats since he was gonna remove and replace them (hence why they've got some black on them)

I'll spare you all the actual "To Do" spreadsheet I have made, but in the next few weeks the list of things i need to do to my 02 TT 180Q looks like this...

- Repair dome light (damn thing never comes on anymore)
- Tint rear taillights black (the car is black and I'm in the process of "murdering" it out)
- Install boost gauge on steering column and fix coolant temp gauge on cluster (f*(k my gauge cluster)
- Install Bilstein coilovers (sitting in basement)
- Install 19mm Nuespeed rear sway bar with CPT adjustable rear control arms (also in basement)
- Remove headlight inserts, discard reflectors and paint them flat black (Muderface style)
- Install smoked corner lenses and fender markers
- Rewire turn signals/running lights to stock fog location (again, Murderface style)
- Reassemble headlights and replace HID bulbs with 5000K or 6000K bulbs (OEM bulbs are fading on me)

From there I'll finish working out the electrical gremlins and put the finishing touches on the exterior. Once I complete that, the engine build will begin (right now I'm planning on late Feb / early March). I'll be pulling the engine to install IE rods, new bearings, head bolts and piston rings as well as a full timing belt/water pump overhaul. Once I get the motor back together it will be time to decide how I want to go about putting down ~400 awhp on the stock head :D

l88m22vette
12-30-2008, 11:40 PM
Within two weeks:
- install timing belt kit, green temp sensor, grease rear bushings
- change tranny fluid to MT90, change rear diff and steering w/OEM fluid
- install ECS dogbone poly kit
- change fuel filter
- figure out an Ancient Greece history unit!

By the end of summer:
- get a short shifter (Dieselgeek?) and fill my bushings with Lexel
- figure out my extra gauge placements once and for all
- get tuned and install a new EBC/MBC

Sounds sick even with all the popping and smoke hahaha. BBK in the mail. Water/Meth kit sitting on the floor. Thanks again for all the help Murder and Cincy. Vids and soundbites coming soon.

* I would just have the 3in catback built. Are you planning on doin stainless? I think an exhaust stop would still be cheaper.

Imo. Spending the $$$ on coil overs for just one inch isn't worth it. They are nice to have. But. Lowering/sport springs do the same thing. And are easy to change out if needed. (It takes a lil time. But easy to change them)

taifighter
01-01-2009, 10:21 PM
That was one concern is that the kits we all know of are stainless and the builder I found would just use mild steel or aluminized steel. One cool thing is the built system would be about half price, I can pick my own tips, and I can be around while it's built to add or remove pieces to tune the sound. I live in Michigan where we get snow and have salt, my TT is my DD, so it has to stand up to the corrosive-ness of our roads around here

also, just replacing the springs would wear out my shocks and just need replacing anyway, resulting in more $

anyone with input on this?

*im sure you know this. But you will need a camber kit as well.

Cincy
01-01-2009, 11:50 PM
Stainless is great and all, but all in all, an aluminzed system will more than likely last longer than you will own the car (that is unless you drive daily for another 10yr).

Stock shocks dont last long when lowered, meaning you will have to go in again if you just do springs. Stratmosphere had vmaxx's down to $450 just before christmas, you maybe able to find some still on ebay for $500. And awd models will need a kmac kit

I'm approaching the S4 smartly it is going to be my girls car that way any mods have to be cleared through her and I doubt she will say sure go ahead and pull the car apart for a few months to do a stage 3 turbo swap but then again she might say whatever makes you happy like she normally does so its kinda a toss up.

price is still to high on those for my taste maintenance isnt really an issue for me since I have been building engines since I was about 14 (first vehicle 1956 chevy truck built by me and my stepdad) also im a helicopter mechanic so I can fix pretty much anything as long as I can find some form of instructions or pictures also a B5 with a few cosmetic touches is a sexy bich

Wow, read my old messages, I'm about a million miles away from this spring. I've bought a FMIC and an INA kevlar belt/mech. tensioner kit, I'm going to soon buy a Maestro, a SEM + 80mm TB, an AEB, and a 2.0 kit from Issam. My plan is to get the long block done over winter break to break it in properly (most likely until summer), and from that point I save for a BT and clutch; I will somehow fit suspension in there as well...

Knocked some stuff off:

-Fix door sensor (have the replacement sitting somewhere) - found it, fixed i, made a writeup :)
-Install new hatch struts when they arrive (hopefully today, first set I got was bad) - Both sets ECS sent me didn't hold up the hatch. Bent over and bought OEM ones for $40 more. Work great.
-Reinstall dogbone bushings (getting tired of wheelhop) No more wheelhop with 245s...they hook up for the most part.
-Replace MAF...got a code for it
-Clean the interior
-Fix little exhaust leak (I think because of where I put the clamp)
-Replace dome light (really intermittent)

Now I need to:

-Replace a strut bearing
-Replace spark plugs
-Reseat ABS sensor (car ABS's randomly when coming to a stop, though it doesnt throw a code...I don't think I pushed it in far enough)
-Replace dome light
-Get angel eyes working again (hoping it's a wiring issue and that I didn't melt yet ANOTHER inverter)

The car was throwing intermittent codes on 3/4 wheels. I found that the passenger's side wire was almost rubbed through (stupid bigass wheels :tongue_smilie:) so I soldered it up. Still got a code...looked at the driver's side sensor and somehow it was split in half. Replaced the sensor but couldn't get it in the whole way...code went away but now the car engages ABS needlessly when coming to a near stop.

the larger filters are for the longitude a4/passat since they have smaller oil capacity. If you have a crossover pipe still in place, its a tight fit. They are all oem fiters. Im doing mine this friday and advance has 5qts Castrol Syntec and purolator filter for $25. They oil alone is $35

I realized when I went to change the oil on the Lumina (beater) that the filter I bought (looked it up in the book at the parts store) was bigger than the one that was on the car already. Researched it and it's pretty commonly used by GM 3800 guys to allow 5qt oil capacity - and man it was really nice just dumping a whole 5 quarts into the engine without thinking about the oil capacity. I say a bigger filter is a worthwhile upgrade, saves you the hassle of filling and checking the dipstick and having leftover oil sitting around.

New To Do List:
-Remove all non-broken stuff from car and sell it

So with these larger oil filters I can just bump 5 quarts in?!

drain or spark? either way, no. I really dont see a need to change the plug unless the edges are worn.

hit me up when you cut that harness for me

i think its just below 5qrt. I like having extra since my car needs oil every 1-2k miles

So I'm officially in the running to get a stroker together, my to-do list is:

Parts I have: SEM+80mm TB, ADR bigport head w/OEM NA cams, INA mech. tensioner kit, a few random things
Need to buy: 1.8T shortblock (for $100!), 2.0 FSI stroker kit (Issam is giving me a deal, otherwise I'd get the cheaper AEG), motormounts, MJM hybrid pan, a FMIC that will fit the FPP pipes, fluids
The BIG to-do: get my 2.0 02x on the road by spring

never heard of an adr head. doesn't sound as cool as an aeb.

so far i have taken out all my lights to have them redone with some led's and make them look new and shiny. I have the intercooler taken apart to de-oil it. Gotta get the abt spoiler painted and put on the car...

save up for suspension for sure... and brakes. powdercoat the wheels... and that should be it for the car till i have the money for the 2L+ bt (years) haha

Never had an issue with ecs. UPS is next day from their northern OH location to my SW OH location. So if its all in stock, i get it in less than 24hrs

so what the differences between the ADR and the AEB ?

Euro transverse big port vs US longitude big port. No difference in casting.

So My TT is under the knife at Imola motorsports. I'm finally taking care of some issues and getting it ready for some fun summer driving.
This is Imolas beautiful shop. They have a few nice cars...

My Haldex was toast. It went last year and I finally have the cash to fix it. So I got a used one with around 50k miles on it. The rear diff fluid and Haldex fluid/filer are getting changed. My bad one will be going up for sale (If somone has the ability to fix it)...

My Cam chain tensioner gasket was leaking. So that is getting replaced along with the head gasket and all the other gaskets in the head.

Tie rod end and inner CV boot are getting replaced.

I Ordered a set of Sumitomo HTR Z III's. They are a Max performace summer tire that is supposed to be better than the PS2's at half the cost. Only $107 per tire.

Im also going to hard wire my V1, and install my brass shift bushings.
