Anyone here have that dieselgeek short throw shifter. I'm really not after a lot less throw as it is only about 35% less but they claim it really tightens up the feel at the stick too.

If you want firmer shifts, you can either fill in the rubber shifter bushings with lexel ($5 24hr+ job) or you can try these brash shifter bushings (http://www.speed-source.net/products/shifter_cable.htm $28)
I dont know anyone that has tried those bushings since myslow1 has posted it, but im tempted to go that route since they arent to expensive and no extra downtime. The other option is from 034 and they are $110 http://www.034motorsport.com/product_info.php?products_id=18370

i have the B&M short shifter and its really nice.. it uses the stock ball and all so it keeps it looking like stock.. what i like about it is it kinda has a small click as you go into gear to let you know your in gear.. its very quiet but you feel it in the shifter more then anything.. so when you go to shift it clicks coming out of gear then clicks going into gear... ive had someone else drive my car and they said my shifter felt broken cause it kept clicking.. but i rather like it cause after driving it for some time now there is an distinctive difference in the clicks from each gear so i kinda know im in the right gear from that..

Yeah, im mad that he posted them since i may grab a pair myself. I might be picking some up at the end of the month. Rather not have to remove them and be done in about 30mins vs waiting over 24hrs for the lexel to dry and reinstall them to save $20

Those brass bushing seem to be the way to go. $30 and a half hour to tighten it up works for me. Thats exactly what I was looking for, thanks for the link.

Lesson on shift linkage:
-All TTs use the same shifter box whether they're 5 speed, 6 speed, FWD or quattro.
-All TT Quattros use the same shifter end links, be they 5 speed or 6 speed. They use one 1J0 711 761 B and one 1J0 711 761 C end link.
-FWDs use a different style end link, they use two 1J0 711 761 A end links.

oooooooo and i imagine since the ones on that site are for gti's and such they basically wont fit any quattro...

you may want to call/email them and ask since it says ALL. The 337 and 20th have 6sp trannys. The back ends are probably different, but the rubber it replaces may be the same. I may order some for myself and see if they are the same with the 180q and 225 when i do it.

I think if you've got an 02J (FWD) they'll work, however I'd be wary of compatibility with 20ths/337s and TT Quattros.
If I remember (I haven't seen 02J linkage in a while) it uses a ball+socket type connection whereas the 02M has little pins the end links slide over which are then held down with a lock washer. Here's two 02M links:

hm well i will give them a call tm. I will also look at my linkage because i haven't. All the site says for the audi is 99-06. Be awesome if he says they fit i will drive over there slap them in and call it a day haha
i pretty much hate the way my shifter feels right now.

From 034 for their setup, but they change the entire part above
"These linkages drastically improve the shifter feel and precision in 6-speed MkIV VWs, as well as 5-speed MkIV VWs with the pin-style shifter linkage bushings"

Going by this (02J -> 02M swap guide):
If you car is 00-02 you will need cable ends. BUT you DONT need new cables.
I'm thinking they switched it around in 2002 so that all Mk4 platform cars use the B and C style linkage. My TT is a 2000 and used the ball style, my 02M is from a 2004 GLI and uses the newer style.
Perhaps up until then, all 02Ms used the ball style linkage.

Can't I use something to fill the gaps that dries quicker? It seems that the 24hr downtime is a little much. I'm sure I could find something that will harden faster with similar properties.

All are going to have atleast a days worth of cure time. Rushing them will just make it worse. Can always do it on friday night and put it back together on sunday afternoon. You could also by some bushings from a junk yard, but that would just making these brass bushings more than reasonable
