so i was gonna play red alert 3 last night when suddenly my computer turned itself off and i cannot turn it back on by pushing the on button! ive even turned off the switch in the back and back on and still won't start up. i had it on for 4 days straight so i dont know if it just died based off of overheating or something but it has 3 or 4 fans on all the time? also, the led light for the mother board is on so it is still getting power.

to all you computer smarties out their, do u know what happened and how i can fix it. im on my little netbook laptop now but i hate using it as a primary computer so please help!

Eh even if you were running it hard for 4 days it should be ok. When you push the button to start it up, can you hear the processor/harddrive/power supply fans spinning? or can you hear the hard drive reading?

could be a fried hard drive, but i think if that was the problem you'd at least get the windows splash screen or the blue screen of death.. so nothing shows up on the monitor?

could also be a bad power supply if you say it starts making noise and then does nothing.

I'd guess power supply or board.

just barely got back from best buy, they did a power supply test and got nothing so i bought a new power supply and am waiting for my friend to help me put it in since he knows a lot about this stuff and i don't want to fry anything else :)

if it was a bad power supply shouldn't the motherboard not be getting power?

hmmm... im going to say you have to much pornos....... ;)

shhhhh....!!! :D

Well it sounds to me like the motherboard isn'tgetting any power. You're probably hearing the fan(s) on the power supply when you push the little button, but he's not supplying power to any of your vitals. Which is why nothin works. Good luck gettin the new one installed!

my friend and i just finished putting it in and its working just fine... glad it was a cheap fix!

glad to hear it man! You could probably attribute the fried powersupply to a factory defect, but i don't think leaving the poor guy on for 4 days straight helped him either lol. what kind of warranty did you get with the new one?

I think its a year. BFG is the name of the power supply co. ive had this pc for over 3.5 years now so the old one was pretty old.

I also cleaned out the nastiness in there. that was the first time ive ever cleaned it :D

Yeah if you don't clean out the tower case every once in a while it gets pretty nasty. There's dust on EVERYTHING!

yeah, it was pretty disgusting. i don't think my friend plugged back in the sound card though cuz for the life of me i can't get any sound out of my speakers. it shows they are connected and they aren't muted so thats the only thing i can think of?

Yeah its prolly not plugged in all the way. You should be able to check the drivers for it, if its not plugged in to the motherboard it will complain when you try to check the drivers.

wheres the sound card at? maybe i can do it instead of waiting for my friend to get over here again.

also, my computer doesn't say anything about the speakers not working and my latest driver is 9/24/08 so its still pretty up to date.

Mobo or Powersupply.

Cheapest, most likely, and easiest is power supply. Unhook it and bring it to best buy or similar store as ask for compatible replacement. My guess is 30-60 bucks.

If you take the cover off your tower, you should be able to see the motherboard. The sound card will be plugged into the motherboard, and then oughta stick out the back of the tower where the outputs for your speakers/headphones is. might look somethin like this:

Just check to make sure its plugged in all the way

I have a question guys.
Monday I'm picking up my new laptop(they had to order :() but its a 15" apple macbook pro. Now my friends that have Hp,Dell laptops say the apple is garbage. What do u guys think?

CCA4
03-13-2009, 09:55 PM
depends on what you're talkin about doing with it. 5 years ago Apple was garbage for business use...word processing, databases, stuff like that. But now you can run any program on Mac OSX that you can run on windows, and more. And Apple has always kicked the shit out of Microsoft for audio/video editing.

The new macbooks are far more badass than anything you can get from Dell or HP

Yeah its the new new macbook
I plan in using it for games/music/web pages/photoshop/book keeping

I have another friend that has this macbook! And its amazing! She can run like 5 HUGE programs at once and it doesn't slow down. Most computers, just running Adobe slows it down big time

so i looked in my computer drive and i think i have an internal sound card cuz all of the plugs that are on the back are plugged into the motherboard so now im really stumped why no sound is coming out... :(

A4speed
03-14-2009, 11:43 PM
so i decided that since my speakers worked with everything else plugged into it, i decided to buy a new soundcard for $25 put it in, and now the sound works just fine... so all my stupid problems are finally solved! :)
