Figured i would throw it up over here too just to get some threads for peeps to view lol.
I have the most annoying squeek in the world coming from the left front. It isnt suspension its almost constant. When i did my clutch i had a cv boot torn but i have always been more of a replace it when it pops kinda guy. I dont think it is that though. Would a wheel bearing make an annoying squeek sound? My experience has always been the make a much nastier noise and i would pick up vibration in the steering wheel (It doesnt vibrate by the way.) This just started today on my way to work it wasnt as constant or as loud this morning...
If anyone would like to give their .02 i would appreciate it. Im thinking wheel bearing but I have always seen them worse than this as far as sound and how it drives at higher speeds. Maybe this is just phase 1 of it going out lol. phase 2 will be loud will vibrate over 55. I'm assuming a wheel bearing wouldnt be cheap for a tt like it would for a nissan or hyundai or something. For some reason Audi likes to charge alot of their parts. Sure wish i had time to jack it up and give the wheel a wiggle

Bearings are known to squeal. I just had mine replaced. It was more of a droning hum, and would shake over 40-50 mph. I got them replaced for $350 I think. When I made a sharp left (right bearing) the droning would go away. Any of that happan for you?
You need a machine shop to press them. If you have a local shop that can do that, it could possibly be a DIY...

wheel bearings are a easy task to do in my mind for a diy very inexpensive other then the cost of a pair of wheel bearing.
ive done a few wheel bearing changes in the past
if ur interested I could write u up a procedure
but howdy, whats the need of a machine shop press??

You need a press to get the bearings in and out... I guess you can buy one of these

Wheel bearing service on import front-wheel drive cars with cartridge-style wheel bearings can be a challenge if you don’t have the proper tools. The wheel bearings are pressed into the knuckle and are impossible to remove unless you have a hydraulic press or a puller designed to push the wheel bearings out of the hub. Import applications that use the pressed in wheel bearing cartridges include Honda Accord, Mazda MX-6, 626 and Protege, Kia Optima, Nissan Altima and Maxima, VW Beetle, Jetta, Golf and Passat, and Audi TT to name a few.

I just did my sisters neon a couple weeks ago. Both of the fronts were gone and it would go over 40mph. If they sound keeps getting worse and louder as speeds increase, it most likely is the bearings.
Cost wise for her, i spent for BOTH sides
bearings $40x2 = $80
32mm deep socket (axle bolt) = $12
19mm deep socket = $8
Ball joint separater rental from Auto Zone $10 which was then refunded when done
Local press $35x2 = $70
Total = $150 in parts/labor + $20 for sockets i didnt have = $170
Bob Sumeral Tire wanted $550 for the job.
I know a good How-To ill add into the DIY section that you can follow. They used a bearing puller instead of removing the knuckle which may be about the same as paying a shop for the press

hm well people said a wheel bearing wont squeek on AF... who knows. I always had thought they made a much worse noise but i dont see why it couldnt squeek. Its a bearing and bearings squeek all the time. The sound decided to go away today. I think tm since i have a day off i will jack it up and take a looksie. I know i need brakes so maybe i will just do it all at once.
