Hello everyone.
Well This is my first thread
on AudiFreaks. :) I hope we can all make this site an amazing place to share, learn and help other members with their Audis. :)

Well here is my problem.
Since I got my car (A4 Quattro,12V,96) The power locks haven't worked. Since I have heard that is a common problem I got a used Central Lock Pump. After replacing the old lock pump, the power locks still don't work. :( It does make a noise on the back whenever I push the lock button, but it doesn't do anything. The old lock pump didn't even made any noise....
What do you guys think is wrong?
I know all the fuses are fine, I wonder, should the ''new'' Central Lock Pump be programmed using VAG-COM?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

You shouldn't have to code anything in the central locking system unless you changed the actual control module. Have you checked the fault codes in control module 35? (central locking) Do you hear anything when pushing the unlock button? Do the lights flash when you push the lock or unlock button? How many key fobs do you have?

I don't have a Vagcom yet. I ordered the cable from Ebay, so hopefully Ill have it in a few days. Will I be able to check the Central Locking with the free version of Vag-com?
Well Yes, I changed the module, and it does make a noise when I push the lock button. I have only one keyfog, which I believe has to be programmed with the new CLP, so it doesn't work for now.

Thanks

The VAG COM software is always free, the cable off Ebay on the other hand may cause some problems. I know people that have gotten cables from ebay and it either didn't work or gave them limited access, but yes you should have access to just about every control module in the car.
Well there is the problem, changing the control module requires coding the unit, so i hope you kept the old unit to figure out what the coding is because you will never be able to figure out what it is without it, the dealer would have to do it in that case. Do the lights still flash when pushing the lock or unlock button?

Is it safe for a noob to use that program, or would I screw something up if used incorrectly? ( I'm pretty knowlegdable for computers, but I have never scanned a car or so...)
I do have the old module.:) ok Tell you what first happened, When I got the car the middle plug was discconected (purple color) So I plugged it back in and the alarm started trigging and lights flashing for about 30secs, after that the car wouldn't start or do anything, so I unplugged the middle cable to make everything work as before.
I thought that the module was shut, so I got a different but it doesn't do anything as I mention on the previous posts.....

Do you think the only thing the old module needs is to be reseted using VAG-COM and it will work? or..?

Thanks for the help man

Was there any standing water by the module? Often the sunroof drains get clogged and they develop water build up around the central locking module.
I would say hook up the old module and go into module 35 and check the coding number, write it down. Now hook up the new module and code the unit, clear the faults and code the remote keys using the DIY somewhere on audiforums.
The VAG COM is easy to use, the factory scan tool that i used to use was hard for an engineer to use because it didn't tell me what the data blocks were, which is how the germans like it. Just let me know the fault codes after you code the new control module if it doesn't work.

No, I didn't see water or humidity on the module. I also opened it to see if it was broken or anything, but it seemed ok.
Yeah I'll try to do so when I get the cable (wednesday I think).
Sure I have seen that DIY out somewhere, thank you.

That is nice to know, because I wouldn't like to go to the dealership to get my ecu coded cuz I had erased everthing on it.lol

I'll let you know thank you.:)

Hello!:)
Well finally I got the cable and bought a license from Ross-tech. The program works great, howerver for some reasons I still can't read the control module.

I plugged the old module and as usual it started trigging.. I scanned it and it gave me this result:

when I went to "35-Cent-locks" it said that it cant read the module, I've tried several times. So I'm stuck there, not knowing what to do..

Help please:)

you didn't have to buy a license. try using the 409 software. that's what i've used on 3 different cars and never had a problem.
i know what your problem is, your sig says v12 hehe

V12 huh? I never thought about that one... So what do I do? Sell and get me a 30V?;) LOL

The 409 software was asking me to get the license, otherwise it wouldn't scan a thing, cuz I'm using the Ebay cable, so I did.:)

If its not communicating with the control module, put the old one back in and see if it communicates.

Is it because of the cable I'm using? Or something else is not working?[]
