A quick question about oils? `°´°`°´

Hello. =)
Car info is: an a4 12v, 2.8 with 140181 miles. Now my question is. What is the recommended oil for our cars?? I wonder because I asked the same question on AF last year and they told me to use either Full sync 10w30 for summer and 5w 30 for winter. But now I noticed in the Bentley's manual that recommends to use 10w40 for winter and 20w50 to when it gets hot.
Also I guess that is making the car to burn oil since is thinner mmm....?


Ps. I know that for the car burning oil I should do a compression test and replace my pcv valve if the compression is good, but I haven't done so yet, because of the weather....:/ ( Thanks Cincy. :-)...)

Alright thank you. I changed the oil 10 days ago, but I guess I'll have to drain it and fill it with the recommended oil.... Now the problem is.... Where do I find the 20w50 oil? I have looked at some places but they don't carry Full synthetic Castrol on that weight. I guess I will have to switch oil's brand..... is Valvoline good?

You probably wont have any issues running 10w40 year round. Valvoline does meet the VW specs

I've been running Valvoline the last 2+ years and love it. I run 5w30 and it seems to work out just fine year round (and we get a temp swing as much as -31 during the winter, to close to 100 in the summer). I've noticed that my car lately has been consuming more oil, so I think that at my upcoming oil change I'm gonna go to a 10w30 and see if that helps the consumption issue (along with a compression check just to be sure).
